Initial Ideas: Mockumentary

Me and my partner, Owen George Ruff are planning to do a Borat style mockumentary of a popular franchise. We have a lot of ideas to do a good mockumentary style of film. The first idea is mocking the award winning controversial video game series, Grand Theft Auto. The general stereotypical protagonist in the video game series is working-class, quite informal man in his mid-30s. Instead we make him a posh teenager named Arno Fanning. We have chosen to be in that situation because we thought that a kid who is not street smart and gets into tricky situations, will add more humour and attract viewers who may be fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and mockumentary. We are trying to broaden the audience for our film by appealing to those who are already fans of the franchise we are parodying.

We have decided to replace the stereotypical rough guy, mid-30s protagonist for a middle-class teenager who fails miserably and breaks his hand.

Another idea we had is a mockumentary of the high-octane racing franchise, The Fast and The Furious. We would have had two drivers preparing to race each other, but when the shot starts to zoom out we see two boys playing with toy cars. Another idea we have is to use regular every day cars which are not used for racing. Due to limitations such as budget and age restrictions we could not proceed with this idea unfortunately.

20/9/2016: The Grand Theft Auto mockumentary would be hard to do because of practical limitations and the possible use of resources like drugs, cars, and prop guns. I have had thoughts of doing a simpler mockumentary teaser trailer, but one that still involves the parody of Grand Theft Auto.

18/10/2016: I have discovered a more partical idea, for a mockumentary, I came to this conclusion because the previous idea for a mockumnetary was hard to do, and there would have been budget limitations. But I am now focused on the mockumentary genre, and I feel more confident about expanding my research on similar products such as The Office.
